out of the mouths of babes

we had dinner the other night at our very lovely friends, the brady's. it was a great time and we enjoyed being with them. so much so that as it was time to leave eden really started getting emotional.

" i want to stay here forever. i don't want to go home."

well we persuaded her to come along with us anyway. we made it to the car. then she preceded to spout all kinds of fun things.

" i can't do it with my parents. i need different parents. " she has repeated that a couple of times since. probably for effect.

" i need fancy clothes. i just have normal clothes." this from the girl who wears dresses everyday.

" i lost all my marbles. i need to get more from the marble store. let's get marbles and a gun. i need a gun." this is what i get for letting her play with boys. now she "shoots" monsters all the time.

we then got home and i took charlie inside to go to bed. daddy and eden made their way inside, slowly.

daddy- "let's go in our house now eden."
eden- "i don't like this house because it is difficult."
daddy- "which house do you want?"
eden- "that one" points across the street.
daddy- "people live in that house eden."
eden- "well they can move."

eventually they came inside. and eden went to bed.

and the next day she told me she loved me.

but on tuesday she told me she wants different parents. again.

*sigh*

I love Kate Winslet!!!

she had this to say about all the crap having to do with womens' weight:

"a perfect physique is unattainable for most women who can't hire personal trainers or who don't have the time or inclination to spend two hours a day working out."

Winslet believes that women shouldn't try to achieve the impossibly slimline look of many an actress and model.

"I like to think that I represent normal women who have flaws, who have had children, and don't starve themselves or go to the gym."

i love her point of view. and her acting isn't half bad either!

a day in the life....

This is hilarious.

If you are a mom read it.

If you aren't a mom and you wonder what on earth us moms do all day, read it.

If you are my husband and you can't understand why I didn't wash your jeans today, read it.

insight from a 3 1/2 yr old

a couple of things eden said to me while we were watching the inauguration:

"mom i want barack obama to give another talk." -after his inaugural address. apparently there were a few points he forgot to cover.

"i want barack obama to get in the helicopter." -she could not understand why george bush was getting in the helicopter and not obama.

"he is not our president. he is someone else's." -in reference to bush no longer being our president.

e- "why do they go to the airport?"
mommy- "cause that is how it is done."
e- "no that is not how it is done." -she knows all folks.

we enjoyed watching the coverage of the inauguration this morning. (i did feel a little bad for bush when obama said we had to dust ourselves off and get america back on track. it's not like he singlehandedly put our country in recession.)

all in all it was nice to take part in a such a historic day. from my couch no less.

god bless america.

good luck president obama!!

What a Difference a Day Makes

Yesterday
we lunched on McDonalds chicken nuggets.

Today
we lunched on turkey (me and charlie), peanut butter (eden), strawberries and edamame.

Yesterday
we wore long sleeves and pants. we sweat profusely.

Today
we wore short sleeves. and feel much cooler.

Monday's will catch you unprepared. at least they always do me.

ringing in the new year

I am only making 2 resolutions this year. (Of course I resolve to get fit, but that goes without saying so I won’t be listing it. sigh. Here’s to all the crunches I need to do. And leg lifts and lunges.)

1- I resolve to live in the here and now. No more daydreaming about the future. I need to focus on all the great things I have now!! (Thank you Julie for getting me thinking about this.)

2- I resolve to play more music in the house. All kinds. All the time.

That’s it. Simple things. Happy things.

Here's to a wonderful 2009!

It's Snowing! (Vague reference to Hook. That's for you Cami.)

enjoying a little outdoor fire with my aunt april.

refusing to come back into the cabin

this one loved the snow. but did not love wearing a hat.

mimi and charlie sledding it up.

sledding buddies

ski day at park city. danny watched the kids. it was sunny. and warm. and therefore, magnificent. until my legs got tired.

infamous 70's style blue chair. charlie loved it. wonder why?

mommy and nie nie

auntie abby and nie nie

papa, nie nie and daddy enjoying said sun.

we left before it got freezing (11 degrees) and before it snowed (6 inches) which are things to avoid when traveling in a vehicle that isn't snow savvy.

sum up: great times.

Christmas Day.....

....didn't start until 10am. and i had to wake eden up because i was tired of waiting.

is it possible to get both children to smile and look at the camera? for me, no it isn't.

toys. it was a toy christmas. and it was fun. so fun that no one could take their eyes off the toys long enough to pay any attention to mommy and her obnoxious desire to document the moments.

jammies courtesy of g. grandma betty. a christmas tradition for as long as i can remember.

as i said, the children would not behave for the photos. so we took it without them.

christmas night jammies courtesy of grandma debi.

time for bed!!
coming tomorrow: pics of the utah part of our adventure!
