The Secret of Life is Enjoying the Passage of Time

the curls. still going strong.

is there anything better than that fresh from a nap sleepy face??

my grown up girlie.

the crawling method. one foot and one leg.

it works. i guess.

it really amazes me how quickly the days pass. charlie is now ten months. eden is my big preschooler. and i am plodding along. we smile. we read books. we play. we learn to climb stairs. we eat yummy food. life happens. right before my eyes.

eden and i went on a mommy daughter date today. actually it was just normal errands. but since it was just us, i tried to make it into something special. (charlie was at home with grandma debi for those who were wondering.) we banked, we bought baby food, we returned and acquired items at nordy rack. then we went to golden spoon. and she told me there was an "e" on the wall. i loved our time together. and most importantly, so did she.

and now charlie is waking up from his nap. and time marches on. and i endeavor to always enjoy it. thank you james taylor.

Thoughts....(I have them occasionally)

1. I love my bluetooth wireless headset. But it hurts my ear. I am trying to follow the law here in California--we cannot hold our cell phone while driving--so I got myself the bluetooth. It is so nice to be able to talk and use both hands. Although I think this law may backfire as now I can write things down while talking and driving and retrieving the baby's binkie.

2. I am so fed up with see-through white T-shirts. I am dying. I cannot handle wearing more than one shirt. If anyone out there has found a shirt that doesn't require a Shade (or similar product) to go underneath, please share the love. .

3. I like Posh's new hairdo, but does this mean everyone will start cutting their hair super short? Cause then it might look like I followed pop culture in my somewhat recent decision to wear my hair super short. And I SO didn't!! I just love the low maintenance, high style look.

4. Charlie is finally crawling. Granted it his own version of crawling. He sorta ends up dragging a leg along, but at least he doesn't sit-on-the-floor-and-scream-because-he-is-so-frustrated-that-he-cannot-move anymore.

5. I love Preschool. Eden loves Preschool. Life is Good!!

6. I love Salmon for dinner. Last night I made grilled salmon and drizzled it with a little balsamic vinegar reduction. YUMMM. The rest of dinner included rice pilaf and an italian antipasti.

7. I should probably go make sure that no one is choking on their late afternoon snack. Cause I am such a good mommy!

He Said, She Said

she said:

eden and charlie were playing outside today while i tried to ready dinner. after a few minutes, eden came back inside and began playing in her pink kitchen.

mom: hi eden. where is charlie?

eden: he is outside by himself.

mom: i don't think he likes to be outside by himself. will you go get him? (he was strapped into a pink push car)

eden: ok. (goes to the door. looks outside) nope. i don't see him.

mom: oh he's out there. just go find him.

as she went out to find her brother, i decided to follow. she had pushed him all the way up the side yard to the gate and had left him looking out at the street. good thing i made her bring him back!!

he said:

ha haaa. (deep breathing. his fav way to communicate.)

Firsts

she picked out her outfit today. shocking that it wasn't a dress. and the backpack is empty!

Oh my heavens, my child is in preschool. I cannot believe she is 3 years old and starting school! She has been so excited for this day to come. And so have I, to tell the truth. She is so ready for this adventure.

her class. Miss Julie, Kayla, Henry, Eden and Heidi.

I am so glad that her class is small. She does much better with smaller groups. And I love her teacher. (She actually stayed with me and my siblings when my parents went on a cruise, many years ago. So that is a fun coincidence.)

are you leaving yet mom?? get outta here already! so nonplussed!

Aside from Eden's academic pursuits she had another first! First sleepover. Eden spent the night with Uncle Nonny and Aunt Sha Sha on Saturday night. We packed up her preschool backpack (only time it will ever be full, guaranteed) and off she went.

They painted her toes pink (I am sure Johnny did it!) and went on a walk with the doggie in the morning. She arrived back home all dressed for church. She had a splendid time!

the first pancake

i have been thinking about parenting lately. a lot. and i am coming to the conclusion that being the first born child is really tough. your parents are clueless; they basically have no idea what they are doing so they try everything out on you. so as a first born who is now trying desperately not to burn the first pancake, i am going to go out on a limb here and say that i will probably fail. i am sure i will find better ways to do things as i go along and some of my first guesses will have been not the best options. i am already amending a few things with charlie. and i know i am still years away from the really difficult parenting stuff.
the only thing that really keeps me going is the fact that i am a first born. and i turned out pretty ok. and i still really love my parents. so hopefully that means there is hope for eden
and for me.

to eden: mommy loves you. she is trying her best. so when she is really off and says and does silly things, just keep putting up with her. and never stop giving her lubs (loves). oh and sorry about the time i put you in time out for spilling water. i thought you deliberately peed on the floor. which is punishable by time out. spilling, however is not. so yeah. love you.

to mom and dad: thanks for working hard at being parents. i know i wasn't always an angel. you guys are great. so yeah. love you.
